News and Research on Wonder Auto Technology, Inc. (WATG)

Business Description

Wonder Auto Technology, Inc., through its subsidiary, Wonder Auto Limited, manufactures automotive electrical parts, specifically, starters and alternators.

Products

The company engages in the design, development, manufacture and sale of automotive electrical parts in the Peoples Republic of China through its wholly owned subsidiary, JinZhou Halla Electrical Equipment Co., Ltd. (Halla). The company’s products are suitable for use in various types of automobiles. It has more market presence in the sedan cars, especially those with smaller engines, with displacement typically below 1.6L. It primarily manufactures and sells two types of automotive electrical components: alternators and starters.

Alternators: An alternator is part of a car engine’s electrical system that is connected to the engine belt of a vehicle and converts mechanical energy into electricity to recharge the battery. The battery, in turn, provides power to all electrical devices in the vehicle, such as the radio, power steering, headlights and windshield wipers. The company develops, manufactures, and sells five series of alternators, which are characterized by their different sizes and output rates, in approximately 150 models. Its alternators’ electrical current flows range in size and output from 65A to 115A. Larger alternators, as determined by their diameters, have more electrical field coils and can produce stronger currents. The company’s alternators have dual integrated fans and built-in integrated circuit regulators. Its alternators are designed to produce high outputs while remaining small and lightweight.

Starters: A starter is part of a car engine’s starting system, along with the starter solenoid. At ignition, the starter solenoid is activated and provides power for the starter. The starter then spins the engine a few revolutions to begin the internal combustion process. The starters produced by the company are known as planetary type starters. These starters are small and lightweight due to their high speed motors combined with speed reduction systems. The company produces five series of starters in terms of diameters (ø), namely ø67, ø70, ø74, ø76, ø81, ø87 and ø100, which produce between 0.85kW to 5.5kW of power.

Strategic Alliance with Hivron

The company, in 2002, has entered into a strategic alliance with Hivron, a South Korean company which has specialized in the design and manufacturing of microchips. Through this strategic alliance, the company accesses South Korean know-how and actively participates in the research and development of technologies that are critical to its products.
