Baidu Narrowly Leading Google in “Who Understands Chinese Users Better” Survey

By Mark Wu – Baidu Inc. (NASDAQ:BIDU) currently leads Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) by a small margin in a current survey regarding “Which Search Engine, Baidu or Google, Understands Chinese Users Better?” held by the Technology channel of QQ.com.

The survey was placed within an article comparing Baidu and Google’s niche services that guide Chinese Internet users through the annual “Spring Transportation” period. During this period, a huge number of Chinese travelers anxiously search for plane, train, and bus information to plan for their annual trips home to celebrate the Spring Festival with family. Currently, 52% of the 14,320 respondents have cast their votes for Baidu, while 48% supported Google.
The article shows Google and Baidu have been doing a good job in providing Chinese Internet users with timely information on train tickets, plan schedules, highway traffic status, weather conditions, etc. “Spring Transportation Maps” is a niche service first launched in 2008 by Google China, which received a large number of positive feedbacks from Chinese Internet users. This year, Baidu has launched this service one week ahead of Google.
